FUNNY WOMEN FEST BENEFIT PERFORMANCE:
"C" IS FOR CABARET SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH, 7:00 PM NEW YORK, NY (January 15TH, 2003) BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE LETTER F: Laura Klein-Danilov stars in a benefit performance of "C" is for Cabaret an evening of song - like kindergarten, with a little more "oomph" than you remember, with Hector Coris on the piano. Proceeds will go toward the teen outreach program of Funny Women Fest (FWF), an arts organization that nurtures women through comedy. This one night benefit performance will take place on Sunday, February 16th, at 7:00 PM at The Triad (158 West 72nd Street, between Broadway & Columbus. By train: 1,2,3,B,C to 72nd St. stop). The lights fade to black. In the dark we hear a few notes played on the piano - a melody from long ago, familiar, yet unable to place because the style of the tune does not seem to match up with what we think we remember. As the stage lights come up, we see a curvy redhead in a long velvet burgundy dress, in typical Cabaret fashion. She begins to sing. Her rich, sultry voice slowly pours out a Fosse-style melody. We suddenly realize that we recognize the song from our childhood, the theme song from the TV show we all grew up and learned from. Yet, there are no puppets, there are no lessons to learn. This show is all about sensuality. Its got all the makings of a diva Cabaret performance with a twist. From torch song, (Rubber Duckie), to Spoken Word, (I Love Trash), to Rock, to R & B, to Gospel. "C" is for Cabaret promises to be a hilarious good time while raising money for a very worthy cause. More information can be attained by going to http://www.funnywomenfest.org/. Tickets are available online at www.TheatreMania.com or by calling 212-352-3101. Tickets: $20.00 in advance, $25 at the door (+ 2 drink minimum). About Funny Women Fest: The first annual Funny Women Fest was held on August 24-27, 2000 in Chicago. Over 100 women from the United States attended the Festival classes and panels, and over 400 people attended the performances. In 2001, women from the United States, Canada and Japan helped to make the FWF a truly international festival. And in the summer of 2002, participants from Israel and Canada added to the cultural richness of the festival performances, and grew from their experiences in the workshops. The first East Coast Funny Women Festival was held on October 24th 27th in NYC and brought together nationally acclaimed performers of all types; stand up, improv, short films, sketch comedy and musical acts. FWF's mission is to provide a supportive environment in which women performers, writers and directors are encouraged to explore and develop their talent and themselves through a uniquely feminine viewpoint. Our goals include strengthening the FWF outreach program, which focuses on minority women, teens and women who demonstrate financial need, and to endow our world with confident, strong, and knowledgeable female artists able to express a collective and individual voice. |
